Privacy Notice Policy

Dr Rob Baskind, consultant psychiatrist, provides medico-legal and private independent psychiatry services, based at The Tower Clinic, 8 Tinshill Lane, Cookridge,  Leeds LS16 7AP.   This privacy notice provides information about the personal information he processes about you as a data controller, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

       4.  Your Rights

Dr Baskind is committed to protecting your rights to privacy. They include:

  • Right to be informed about what he does with your personal data;
  • Right to have a copy of all the personal information he processes about you;
  • Right to rectification of any inaccurate data he processes, and to add to the information he holds about you if it is incomplete;
  • Right to request erasure of data;
  • Right to restrict the processing of your personal data;
  • Right to object to the processing he carries out based on his legitimate interest;


The personal data processed, why it is processed, where such information comes from, and the legal basis for doing so:


Legal cases

Dr Baskind processes the personal data of individuals who are obtaining legal advice or are engaged in a legal dispute, and also the personal data of witnesses and others with links to the issues in the case.

The personal data may include:

  • Names, contact details, and dates of birth;
  • Financial information and bank details;
  • Health information;
  • Information about race, ethnic origin and sex/sexual orientation;


The personal data is generally provided by the person instructing Dr Baskind in relation to the legal issues, usually a solicitor or other healthcare professional.

The data is processed because it is in Dr Baskind’s legitimate interests as an independent provider of medico-legal reports to do so. He needs to see and analyse documents containing this information in order to provide his expert advice.

In relation to any special category personal data, such as health records or information concerning, race, ethnic origin, or sex, he relies on the legal claims basis for processing this data, in addition to his legitimate interest.

In many cases, an individual has consented to the transfer of their personal data to Dr Baskind  Where an individual has consented, he or she may easily withdraw it by notifying Dr Baskind at the above address.  Should that be the case, all documents will either be returned to the instructing party or destroyed.


Private Patient data

Dr Baskind also processes personal data pursuant to his legitimate interests in running his independent private consultant psychiatric service, such as

  • Names, contact details, and dates of birth;
  • Health information;
  • Information about race, ethnic origin and sex/sexual orientation;
  • Invoices and receipts; bank account details if provided etc.,
  • related documents.


  1. Retention period

Personal data in legal cases is retained, where necessary, for a minimum of six years.   Where this is not necessary, it is destroyed on the conclusion of the case.

Administrative data is retained for seven years as necessary, in the unlikely event of queries from HMRC.  Where it is not necessary to retain the data, it is destroyed as soon as possible.  Medical Records are kept in accordance with Professional Standards.


  1. With whom is personal data shared?

Dr Baskind will only share personal data externally strictly on a need to know basis.

Special category data and personnel files held electronically are encrypted with restricted access.    Hard copy special category and other personal data is stored securely with restricted access.

Personal data is not shared with anyone external to his Practice, other than with:

  • Those who have instructed Dr Baskind in medico-legal cases;
  • Outsourced service providers such as digital dictation services, pursuant to GDPR compliant written contracts;
  • With others pursuant to a court order.
